TWEDS Entity Reference — Hierarchy & Descriptions

The Assessment Entity represents a tool, instrument, process, or exhibition composed of a systematic sampling of behavior for measuring a student's competence, knowledge, skills, or behavior. An assessment can be used to measure differences in individuals or groups and changes in performance from one occasion to the next.

The Course Entity represents the organization of subject matter and related learning experiences provided for the instruction of students on a regular or systematic basis. This is the course catalog of all courses offered at each school.

The CourseOffering Entity represents an offering of a course by the school, representing the course catalog of available courses. This is a list of all current year courses for the local education agency (LEA).

The Section Entity represents a setting in which organized instruction of course content is provided to one or more students for a given period of time. This entity provides information about the current year courses taken by a student or taught by a teacher at a school. A course may be offered to more than one section.

The StaffSectionAssociation Entity represents staff associated with their responsibilities within the school.

The StudentSectionAssociation Entity represents the complete list of courses that a student is taking or has attempted.

The Calendar Entity represents a collection of dates. In order for the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to promote data from the IODS to the appropriate data marts, the Calendar data will need to be loaded into the IODS. TEA is using the Calendar data to determine the first day of school to promote student and other data to the data marts.

The CalendarDate Entity represents a day in the school calendar.

The ReportingPeriodExt Entity represents a term in the school year, generally a unit of time in which courses are scheduled and instruction occurs.

The School entity represents an educational organization that includes staff and students who participate in classes and educational activity groups. School is also referred to as Campus.

The EducationServiceCenter entity represents a regional, multi-services public agency authorized by state law to develop, manage, and provide services, programs, or other optional support (e.g., construction, food services, and technology services) to Local Education Agencies (LEAs).

The LocalEducationAgency entity represents an administrative unit at the local level which exists primarily to operate schools or to contract for educational services. It includes school districts, charter schools, and charter management organizations. The Local Education Agency (LEA) is defined as follows: A public board of education or other public authority legally constituted within a state for either administrative control of or direction of, or to perform service functions for, public elementary or secondary schools in: A city, county, township, school district, or other political subdivision of a state; or Such a combination of school districts or counties a state recognizes as an administrative agency for its public elementary or secondary schools; or The term also includes any other public institution or agency that has administrative control and direction of a Career and Technical Education program.

The StudentSpecialEducationProgramAssociation Entity represents the special education program(s) that a student participates in or receives services from.

The PriorYearSSAOrgAssociationExt entity identifies the Education Service Center (ESC) or Local Education Agency (LEA) fiscal agent(s) and the ESC or LEA member(s) for each type of shared services arrangement (SSA) that exists among two or more ESCs and LEAs. LEAs or ESCs use SSAs to share the costs of personnel or services when one LEA or ESC cannot justify the cost of employing a specialized staff member, but a group can justify a portion of the salary. The SSA data is used by TEA to match SSA participants and fiscal agents for financial reporting purposes.

The SharedServiceArrangementExt Entity represents the sum of the financial transactions for shared service arrangements to date. School districts and education service centers (ESCs) find it advantageous to share personnel or services, particularly when a school district cannot justify the cost of employing a specialized staff member full-time, but a group of school districts can justify a portion of the salary or service.

The Parent Entity represents a parent or guardian of a student, such as mother, father, or caretaker.

The ContractedInstructionalStaffFTEExt Entity represents financial information for contracted staff by CIStaffProgramIntent at the LEA or Campus level.

The StaffEducationOrganizationEmploymentAssociation Entity represents the education organization an employee, contractor, volunteer, or other service provider is formally associated with, typically indicated by which organization the staff member has a services contract with or receives their compensation.

The PayrollExt Entity represents the financial transactions for employee compensation. An employee performs services under the direction of the employing institution or agency, is compensated for such services by the employer, and is eligible for employee benefits and wage or salary tax withholdings.

The StaffEducationOrganizationAssignmentAssociation Entity represents position assignments and roles within the local education agency or school.

The StaffSectionAssociation Entity represents staff associated with their responsibilities within the school.

The StaffSchoolAssociation Entity indicates the school(s) to which a teacher provides instructional services for the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA). The StaffSchoolAssociation Entity is only reported for a TIA-designated, pending designation, or National Board Certified teacher.

The Staff Entity represents an individual who performs specified activities for any educational institution that provides instructional and support services to students at the early childhood level through high school completion.

The BasicReportingPeriodAttendance Entity represents the cumulative regular attendance for a student.

The CTEProgramReportingPeriodAttendance Entity represents the high school Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses a student was enrolled in and the cumulative attendance data associated to the course to determine the weighted funding per TEC §48.106.

The FlexibleCTEProgramReportingPeriodAttendance Entity represents the cumulative flexible attendance of a student participating in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.

The Program Entity represents any program designed to work in conjunction with, or as a supplement to, the main academic program. Programs may provide instruction, training, services, or benefits through federal, state, or local agencies.

The StudentCTEProgramAssociation Entity represents the career and technical program that a student participates in or receives services from.

The DisciplineIncident Entity represents an occurrence of an infraction ranging from a minor problem behavior that disrupts the orderly functioning of a school or classroom (such as tardiness) to a criminal act that results in the involvement of a law enforcement official (such as arson). A single event (e.g., a fight) is one incident regardless of how many perpetrators or victims are involved. DisciplineIncidents are events classified as warranting discipline action.

The ExtendedSchoolYearServicesAttendance Entity represents the cumulative attendance of the students who are served through the Extended School Year (ESY) services program.

The StudentEducationOrganizationAssociation Entity captures demographic and similar characteristics of a student that are specific to a student's relationship with a particular education organization.
